The word kumquat comes from Cantonese, "Gold Orange". This fruit is a citrus fruit, and originates from China and Malaysia. It is sometimes used to cook bittersweet sauces, and is enjoyed dried or candied in Southeast Asia. Furthermore, it abounds in vitamin C and its flesh has a bitter taste.

How to buy

Choose kumquats with a bright skin, without cracks or blemishes. Choose them very firm; the ripest could go bad quickly. Favor those who still have attached leaves.

how to keep

You can keep kumquats at room temperature for just a few days. For optimal conservation, keep them in the fridge within a sealed plastic bag, then they can be eaten up to and over a month.

Tips

Contrary to many other citrus fruit, the kumquat can be eaten with its skin. The skin is the sweetest part of the fruit. In contrast with the pulp, which is more bitter, the taste is pleasantly surprising.
