Plaice's binomial name is Pleuronectes platessa. It is a flat fish with an oval body, from the Pleuronectidae family. It lives on sandy or muddy ground. Like all flatfish, its eyes are on the same side of its flattened and asymmetrical body. It measures between 25 and 45 cm, and is tan or brown in color, with orange dots on the upper side. It is more greyish on the underside.
